Flag 'Hoisted Or Unfurled- Ashish Kumar Pathak

Why is the Indian flag 'Hoisted on Independence Day but 'Unfurled' on Republic Day?

It may sound surprising but it is so. Because on Independence Day, the Indian tricolor is tied at the bottom of the flag pole and then pulled up for hoisting. Usually by the Prime Minister of India🇮🇳 hoists the tricolor, as head of the elected government. This is done as a mark and symbol of Independence of country after more than three centuries of struggle against the British Rule, same is imitated accordingly in states and Districts.

On the other hand, during the Republic Day celebrations, the flag is already tied upon the top of the flag pole and it is Unfurled without pulling it up, which so symbolically depicts that the country is already free and independent and it has just open it up to abide law of the land. Our head of the state I. e president of India🇮🇳 unfurls it our national capital and same is imitated across the states.
